Financial help for Vulnerable People
“My capacity is limited and I have several learning disabilities. I need assistance for these, my disabilities affect the way I understand information and how I communicate.”
We provide financial assistance for clients with a range of life-limiting conditions, including those with severe learning and mental, difficulties and physical disabilities.
We draw on a wealth of legal, social care, benefits and welfare rights knowledge as well as personal experience of disability and family care.
We warmly welcome referrals from families, independent advocates, adult and community services, health care professionals and the charitable sector.

How it works: Deputy for Property and Financial Affairs Service
For those who lack the capacity to make decisions, we will act as Deputy for Property and Financial Affairs. We do this by applying to the Court of Protection to act as Deputy.
What is the Court of Protection?
This is a specialist court created under the Mental Capacity Act 2005. The MCA assumes everyone has the capacity to make decisions themselves unless proven otherwise by a qualified practitioner.
Step 1
- The Court of Protection decides whether or not someone has the mental capacity to make important decisions themselves.
Step 2
- The decision made by the Court of Protection is then set out in a court order along with what sorts of decisions the deputy can make.
Step 3
- Each client is registered with the Office of the Public Guardian who audit the work of the Deputy for those who lack the capacity to make their own financial decisions.
