David

David’s family were recommended to the PDS in 2017. David was living in accommodation which was a long way from his parents in Suffolk. David suffers from epilepsy, and every time he had a fit, the care team were required to notify the emergency services, as they were not qualified to deal with his complex needs. That would lead to him being taken to hospital where because of the complexity of his needs, his overall condition would often deteriorate.  His elderly parents were often called out in the middle of the night.

David’s parents  found a 2 bed bungalow down the road from where they lived, which allows them to support the care team and David & reduce the need for emergency hospitalisation.

To facilitate the purchase of David’s home, the PDS adapted Suffolk HOLD. David purchased an interest in his home in Saxmundham, with financial help from Suffolk Building Society, (‘SBS’), Peter’s Fund (Suffolk), (‘PFS’), a housing charity, and his family. The loan by SBS is guaranteed & paid  by PFS, & secured on the property. A market rent is charged by PFS to David, and paid from benefit on the basis that this pays David’s mortgage.

David’s family have agreed that David’s interest in the property will terminate on his death, or he no longer needing the property. This means PFS will be able to provide housing for another HOLD candidate. The adapted legal framework is set out below.
