Financial Support for the Elderly
“My capacity is diminishing as I am getting older.”
I may still retain the necessary faculties to make decisions about my property and financial affairs, but I am increasingly forgetful. I might remember who won the Women’s Tennis but forget where I put my glasses. I am so pleased to be able to speak to someone who can take the stress out of paying my bills.
We help transform the lives of our clients and their families by enabling them to be secure
financially and lead an independent lifestyle – we remove much worry and responsibility. Our
professional, personalised, and comprehensive financial support service assists elderly people so that they really can live as independently as possible.
We draw on a wealth of legal, social care, benefits and welfare rights knowledge as well as
personal experience of family care. We warmly welcome referrals from families,
independent advocates, adult and community services, health care professionals and the
charitable sector.
People living together
We need a safety net, if one of us falls.
People living on their own
Everybody needs somebody to lean on.
Declining memory
Memory problems are scary, but less so with a guiding hand
How it works: Lasting Power of Attorney
Choice is the most important thing for all of us. If, and as long as you retain mental capacity to manage your affairs and can make the decisions that matter, you have the ability to create a Lasting Power of Attorney, or LPA for short.
There are two types of Lasting Power of Attorney;
1. Health & Welfare LPA
2. Property & Financial Affairs LPA.
If you can appoint an Attorney to deal with your affairs, the Attorney can carry out your wishes. For most people, staying in your own home rather than a nursing or care home is the one thing that matters most. If you have instructed an Attorney, your wishes will be carried out.
For those without the capacity to make decisions, we will act as Deputy for Property and Financial Affairs. We do this by applying to the Court of Protection to act as Deputy. This is a more costly and lengthier process and if and when an order is made, it compels a Deputy to act in someone’s ‘best interests’, which may not be the same as carrying out their wishes.
Choice 1
- An LPA (Property & Financial Affairs) Attorney has the authority to deal with all your financial affairs as you wish.
Choice 2
- The LPA gives authority to ‘tell the world’ that you don’t want to leave your home and control your care.
Choice 3
- If you lack capacity the only way of dealing with your affairs is with a Deputyship Order made in the Court of Protection.
Why choose use?
The assurance of a paid professional service removes the friction which can often arise within families when dealing with money and the worry of whose looking after it.
