Stewart was introduced to the PDS by Nottinghamshire County Council Social Services in April 2021. Stewart had been the victim of financial abuse and as a result his benefits had been stopped. Stewart also had significant debts. We were able to unfreeze Stewart’s benefits, negotiate repayment plans with his creditors and ensure that he received regular weekly money for his personal expenses. In January this year, Nottingham Social Services found Stewart a new home, away from his “friends” and with the help of a good Samaritan, Stewart started to volunteer with a local food bank. Everything seemed to be going well for Stewart and his future was looking a lot brighter when we received the shock news that Stewart had died.
