I am Kayleigh’s biological Aunty. When Kayleigh was 6 months old she became very poorly and my sister (her natural mother) was unable to look after her; my parents took over the role and got custodianship. Kayleigh suffered with seizures until the age of 10 years old, she had two surgeries to stop them, but none worked until she had half her brain taken away. The seizures mimicked a stroke; after the final surgery it was diagnosed as a virus destroying her brain which left Kayleigh with mental impairment and left side weakness on her body and Kayleigh needing 24-hour care for all aspects of life.
My parents looked after Kayleigh until my mum was unable to due to having Alzheimer’s and Kayleigh moved to Mencap in Beccles.
Before PDS took over Kayleigh’s affairs, my parents were responsible for her finances and benefits; I also supported Kayleigh for a short period of time and then asked PDS to take over. PDS have been managing Kayleigh’s affairs for some 2 years, they have given her and myself useful advice on how to manage her finances, helped her to get the correct benefits she is entitled to and kept me up to date on how much money Kayleigh has in her accounts.
