Alex had been a ‘Posty’ and personified it, as the photo shows; always happy to say hello, always cheerful, always someone you’d be pleased to meet.
I met him for the first time at the Shaftesbury Residential Centre at Lowestoft, where he’d washed up having gone through the NHS system. He’d gone into hospital over Christmas with pneumonia, and left in the New Year with a brain injury. That didn’t seem right to me, and so I instructed solicitors to investigate. Some 6 years later an apology and a partial admission of liability for the life changing injuries sustained was obtained.
In the meantime, Alex had moved onto a Brain Injury Residential Rehabilitation service that I’d fought battles to set up. We were looking, and found, a plot of land, to provide a bungalow big enough for him and his 2 daughters, who’d had to go into foster care, to come and stay. And then he died.
